✅ Important: Preparing for installation: It is crucial that all installations are planned out carefully before specifying a shade order.

⚠️ Warning: Important Installation Requirements for Recessed Applications

For all recessed installations, U-channels must be installed prior to the installation of the track system. U-channels can and should be installed before the main shade is ordered to ensure proper coordination and fit.

It is critical to verify that both the tracks and the shade boxes can be installed securely, level, and plumb. Prior to installation, ensure that all necessary blocking or structural carpentry work has been completed to provide solid attachment points for the tracks and shades.

All electrical work must be completed in accordance with local electrical codes and regulations and performed by a licensed electrical professional.

When mounting the KAOS shade system, only use fasteners appropriate to the structural material of the building. Improper fastening can result in system failure or damage.

Caution: Do not use sharp blades or knives when opening the packaging to avoid damaging components.

For optimal recessed installation, we recommend a pocket size of 7" wide by 12" high.

Failure to follow these guidelines may compromise the performance, safety, and aesthetics of the installation.

Step 1: Bracket Installation

1. Inspect Pocket

   • Verify that the upper corners of the pocket are clear of any obstructions.
   • Confirm no interference with bracket placement or operation.

2. Mount Brackets

   • Position mounting brackets 3/4" from the inside edge of the U-channel.

   • Reference the back plate of the mounting bracket for placement; do not use the latch system as a guide.

   • Use fasteners appropriate to the structure (concrete, metal, wood, etc.), rated to support the full weight of the KAOS Shade system.

   • Ensure brackets are installed securely, level, and properly aligned.
     

⚠️ Warning: Important: Improper inspection, alignment, or fastening may result in system failure or structural damage.

Step 2: Roll Installation

1. Unpack Roll

• Open packaging without sharp tools.

• Place shade roll on a soft, clean surface.

2. Remove Packaging

• Discard all foam, wraps, and excess materials.

3. Install Bracket Inserts

• Insert idler side bracket first.

• Push motor side bracket until it clicks securely into place.

⚠️ Warning: Handle components carefully to avoid damage during setup.

4. Insert Shade Roll

1. Shade Installation Preparation:

• Rest the bottom/weight bar on two sawhorses or small ladders.

💡 Tip: If sawhorses aren't available, rest it on the ground using packaging material to protect finished surfaces

• Unroll the fabric completely until only the bare aluminum tube is exposed.

• Identify the motor side and idler side.
   

✅ Important:

The idler plate can shift laterally—handle carefully.

The motor plate is secured.

Pre-position the brackets for correct orientation.

• Position both sides under the cassette and push up simultaneously on the left and right sides.
   

⚠️ Warning: If one side is inserted first, the other may be difficult to engage.

💡 Tip: A distinct "click" will confirm the shade is secured.

• Fasten the silver safety screws on the mounting plates to lock the material roll in place.

⚠️ Warning: Confirm both sides are fully engaged before proceeding to system testing.

6. Secure with Thumb Screws

• Locate the thumb screws on each mounting plate.

• Tighten the thumb screws to securely lock the material roll in place on both ends.

✅ Important: Ensure thumb screws are fully tightened to prevent any roll movement during operation.

⚠️ Warning: Roll Shade all the way to expose the tube.  Confirm the fabric is centered on the tube.  See below image:

✅ Important: Shades shipping from 7/11/25 will now have caps that will lock in the material.  If material needs to be replaced, these caps will need to be removed, and replaced if damaged.

Step 2b: Shades Under 6' additional weight bar assembly

1. Lower the bottom edge of the shade until it is approximately 5 inches above the ground.
2. Align the front and rear steel bars with the three mounting holes on the hem bar.
3. Attach the front and rear steel bars to the hem bar:
   •  
     • Begin by securing one end of the steel bars with one of the three provided weight bar screws. Leave the screw slightly loose.
     • Secure the opposite end with another weight bar screw, also leaving it slightly loose.
     • Install the third screw in the center. Once all three screws are in place, tighten them securely

Step 4: Measuring and Cutting the Tracks

1. Track Identification

✅ Important: Tracks are labeled as Left and Right on the top side of the tracks.

💡 Tip: The top of the tracks is indicated by the black “Keder Feeder” and the removable “Bumper.”

💡 Tip: To identify the Left/Right of the cassette: You want to be looking at the shade so the fabric is rolling off the back of the roll.

2. Measuring and Cutting Tracks & U-Channels

1. Measure Carefully

   • Measure the DISTANCE FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE POCKET BRACKET TO THE FLOOR.

2. Calculate Cut Length

   • SUBTRACT 1/2” from the measured distance.

   • FORMULA:
     Track Cut Length = (Bottom of Case to Floor) – 1/2”

3. Prepare for Cutting

   • REMOVE THE BOTTOM CAP from each track.

4. Cut the Track

   • CUT ONLY THE BOTTOM END of the track to the calculated length.

   • DO NOT CUT THE TOP END — preserves factory fittings.
     
     

⚠️ Warning: EYE PROTECTION MUST BE WORN DURING CUTTING.

5. Cut and Install One at a Time

   • CUT → INSTALL immediately.

   • DO NOT PRE-CUT ALL TRACKS to avoid confusion or mismatching.

Step 4b: Installing Recessed Tracks

Installing U-Channels

1. Pre-drill the U-channel:
   • 2 holes for TOP, MIDDLE and BOTTOM.
   • 1 hole every 12 inches in spacing Attach the U-Channel beneath the brackets.
2. Secure the U-channels on both sides using the appropriate screws
    

⚠️ Warning: Ensure the fasteners are capable of supporting the weight of the shade.

• Use appropriate fasteners to mount the brackets to the ceiling or wall, aligning them according to the ordered shade width.

Installing Track into U-Channels

Dis-assembling the tracks

1. To remove the top cap, unscrew the two securing screws.
2. To remove the bottom cap, unscrew the two securing screws.     
3. Remove the screws holding the spring clips along the front of the track.
4. Push down on the spring clip and rotate it outward to release it from the track.
5. Pull out the V-track from the outer track.
   
6. Pre-drill holes to secure the track to the U-channel.
    

💡 Tip: Use the centerline inside the track as a guide.

✅ Important: Ensure you only drill through the first layer, and make the holes large enough for the correct screws.

1. Reattach the top cap and secure it with the two provided screws.
2. Reattach the bottom cap and secure it with the two provided screws.

Installing the Tracks in the U-Channels

1. Insert the track into the U-channel.
   
2. Secure the track to the U-channel using the appropriate screws.
    

💡 Tip: A shim may be needed at the back of the track for leveling. (Shims are not provided.)

1. Insert the V-track at a slight angle.
   
2. Once the V-track is inside the track, rotate it to position it correctly
3. To reinstall the spring clip, push it between the V-track and the outer track, then rotate it into place.
   • Ensure the hole in the spring clip aligns with the holes in the outer track.
4. Reattach the spring clips and secure them with the screws you removed earlier.       
   
   Step 5: Installing Tracks into U-Channels

   1. Insert Tracks Correctly

   2. SLIDE THE V-TRACKS AT AN ANGLE into the U-channels.
      

   3. LIFT THE WEIGHT BAR MANUALLY and FEED THE KEDER into the V-track.

   4. Check Wheel Alignment

      • ENSURE WHEELS ARE SEATED PROPERLY inside the track.

Step 6: Securing Tracks

1. Initial Shade Movement

   • LOWER AND RAISE THE SHADE TWICE before securing.

   • MOVE THE WEIGHT BAR into the final securing position.

2. Drill Correctly

   • USE THE TRACK JIG to align.

   • DRILL HOLES 1.5” DEEP at each marked point.

3. Fasten Tracks Securely

   • USE 1 1/2” FLANGED SCREWS.

   • PLACE SCREWS EVERY 24 INCHES for proper fastening.

Step 7: Installing Wheel Stoppers

• INSTALL WHEEL STOPPERS as per the system illustration.

⚠️ Warning: DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP — Prevents the wheel system from coming off the tracks.

Step 8: Fine Tuning and System Management

1. Fine Tune Limits

   • ADJUST THE UPPER AND LOWER MOTOR LIMITS carefully.

   • REFER TO THE MOTOR PROGRAMMING GUIDE.

2. Check Shade Tracking

   • VERIFY SHADE IS LEVEL and TRACKS ARE PLUMB.

   • CHECK FOR SMOOTH FABRIC MOVEMENT — No telescoping, no binding.

Best Practices

1. Tools Required

• Fasteners:
  Use application-specific structural fasteners such as Headlok or TORX lag screws.

  ⚠️ : IMPORTANT: Fasteners must be rated for the load and substrate. Incorrect fasteners can cause track failure.

• Saw Blade:
  Use a miter saw blade specifically designed for cutting aluminum.
  
  ⚠️ : IMPORTANT: Using improper blades can result in inaccurate cuts, track damage, or compromised system performance.

2. Measuring and Cutting

   • Follow the baseline measurement instructions detailed in the Measuring and Cutting the Tracks & U-Channel section.

     ⚠️ : CRITICAL: Measurement errors will lead to improper track fitment and binding during shade operation.

• Cut and immediately install each track individually.

  Cut One Track at a Time

  ⚠️ : IMPORTANT: Cutting all tracks at once increases the risk of mismatch, resulting in installation errors and misalignment.

3. Track Installation

• Ensure slight tension is applied when locking the track into place.

  Achieving Correct Tension

  ⚠️ : CRITICAL: Proper tension is necessary to secure fabric tracking and to prevent telescoping or operational failure over time.

4. Fabric Roll Installation

• If saw horses are not available, rest the weight bar securely on a stable surface.

• Verify that the fabric is properly seated on the tube before installation.

  ⚠️ : IMPORTANT: Improper seating of the fabric roll can cause immediate performance issues and long-term tracking failures.

5. Bracket Installation

• During pocket installations, confirm that the left and right edge brackets are level and precisely aligned.

  ⚠️ : CRITICAL: Misaligned brackets will cause system binding, uneven roll-up, and premature wear on both shade and drive components.

Troubleshooting

🔧 Troubleshooting

Common issues and solutions for your KAOS system

Shade Won't Fully Raise or Lower

Possible Cause

Motor programming limits are off or not set

Solution

Reset the motor and reprogram upper/lower limits

• Remote control that came with the shade
• Ladder (if needed)

⚠️ Warning: Always ensure shade is fully lowered before beginning motor reprogramming to avoid damage, and easier access to motor head.

Step 1:

Select the Guide above for the motor you have.

Step 2:

Using the appropriate Motor Guide, Factory reset the motor

Step 3:

In the same Motor Guide, Re-set the UPPER and LOWER Limits.

💡 Tip: Test the limits multiple times after programming to ensure consistent operation.

Telescoping or Weight Bar Level Issues Weight Bar Binding or Track Noise

Cassette or brackets are not level

Re-level the cassette and verify bracket positions

Ensure weight bar is installed into the Track System, this will help keep it properly aligned.

Check track placement: The gap from the end of the weight bar to the edge of the tracks should be approximately 1/8" on both sides

Solution

Lower the shade past its LOWER LIMIT to completely unroll the fabric until the metal tube is exposed. Verify the fabric is centered on the tube (there will be a 45 degree cut in the fabric that will align with the end of the tube).

💡 Tip: This is also a good time to verify the Tube itself is level.

💡 Tip: Fabric will slide easily within the tube.

Weight Bar binding or noise coming from the tracks

Possible Cause

Improper Guide Wheel positioning/alignment

Guide Wheels not spinning freely

Tracks are not plum or properly aligned

Inner V-Track is dirty

⚠️ Warning: Never force a shade if tracks are binding. This can damage the fabric or motor. Always identify and fix the root cause first.

Adjust the guide wheels for proper placement within the track

• Pick tool or small flathead head screwdriver
• Flashlight or good lighting (Head Lamps are recommended)
• Screwdrivers
• Drill and Bits
• Tape Measure
• 4-6' Level
• Shims (if needed)
• Can of compressed air
• Silicone Based Lubricant

Step 1:

Visually inspect the guide wheels in the track

Step 2:

Make sure the Guide Wheels are spinning freely.

Step 3:

Test shade operation and fine-tune as needed

Track alignment and positioning

Step 1:

Remove any screws securing the tracks to the U-Channels

Step 2:

Cycle the shade 2 to 3 times with the tracks "floating" in the U-Channels. This will help align the tracks in the optimal distance

Step 3:

Make sure the tracks are plum/level. (See the Telescoping Section)

Track cleaning and maintenance

Step 1:

Make sure the length of the inner V-track is clean and free of debris.

Step 2:

Use a can of compressed air to blow out any dust, dirt, or debris that may have accumulated.

Step 3:

Use a Silicone based lubricant on the Keder for smoother operation.

💡 Tip: This should be done every 6 months to a year as basic maintenence.

⚠️ Warning: Only use a Silicone based lube on the Fabric/V-Tracks, and a Dry Lithium/Graphite lubricant on any other moving parts. DO NOT use WD-40.

Wrinkles in the Fabric

Possible Cause

Fabric not properly tensioned during installation

Fabric misaligned on the roller tube

Improper fabric handling during installation or shipping

Extreme temperature fluctuations in outdoor conditions

Shade stored in cold conditions before installation

Fabric compressed or folded during transport

Solution

Check and adjust fabric tension

Step 1:

Lower the shade fully and inspect how the fabric rolls onto the tube

Step 2:

Ensure fabric is rolling evenly without bunching or shifting side to side

Step 3:

If fabric is misaligned, manually adjust its position on the tube when fully lowered

Natural outdoor conditioning and sun exposure

💡 Tip: Outdoor materials often self-correct wrinkles through natural sun exposure and temperature cycling over 1-3 weeks.

Step 1:

Operate the shade daily, extending it during peak sun hours to allow natural heating

Step 2:

Leave shade extended during warm, sunny days to let solar heat naturally relax the material

Step 3:

Cycle the shade multiple times during temperature changes (morning/evening) to help work out creases

Solution

Steam treatment for stubborn wrinkles

🔧 Tools Needed:

• Garment steamer
• Clean microfiber cloth
• Extension cord (if needed for outdoor access)
• Water for steamer reservoir

Step 1:

With shade fully extended, use the garment steamer, holding it 6-8 inches away from the material

Step 2:

Work systematically across wrinkled areas, allowing steam to penetrate while gently stretching the material

Step 3:

Allow material to dry while maintaining tension, then cycle the shade several times

💡 Tip: Steam is gentler than direct heat and works well with outdoor materials. Work in sections for best results.

💡 Prevention Tip: When possible, install shades during warmer weather and allow the material to acclimate to outdoor conditions gradually.
