V2 Installation Guide

⚠️ Warning: Use the packaging to rest the finished surfaces on to prevent scratching on concrete.

1. Loosen screws on the door latches using a 5/64 allen wrench allowing the latches to rotate inwards. DO NOT REMOVE THE SCREWS. Open the door.
2. Undo the silver safety screws, then press the latch release and pull the roll out.
   • ⚠️ Warning: Make sure to put the Fabric Roll on a protected surface.

Step 2: Bracket Installation

💡 Tip: Before you start, ensure the screws or anchors used are of the proper quantity, size, and type compatible with the structural substrate and rated for the weight being carried (refer to shipping documents or the box label).

1. Install Wall Mount Brackets:

   • Secure brackets to structural supports using appropriate fasteners.

   • Position brackets 4–6" from each end of the opening.

   • Mount additional brackets (if included) equally spaced between the outer brackets to prevent cassette sag.

   • Align and level all brackets.

   • Use two brackets for shades up to 18' wide; use three brackets for shades wider than 18'.

Step 3: Power Wire Preparation

⚠️ Warning: Installation must follow all local electrical codes when working with 110v AC power, use a certified electrician when necessary.

✅ Important: All KAOS shades have an internal disconnect and ships disconnected. Before running the shade, open the shade door and complete the connection.

1. Prepare the Power Wire
   • Ensure the power wire is secured through the cassette on the side that will be the final termination side.
   • Make sure these wires are secured so that they will not be damaged during installation of the cassette.

💡 Tip: To use the "Quick Connect" Slide the RED "Lock" away from the center - Press down on the BLACK part between the RED - While pressing Down, pull the connectors apart

Step 4: Cassette Installation

⚠️ Warning: Cassette installation requires two or more people and/or hoisting equipment. Always use safe lifting and rigging techniques.

✅ Important: Ensure that the fabric roll with the tube is uninstalled before mounting the empty cassette.

1. Install Cassette
   • Remove the material roll from inside the cassette and set it aside.
   • Lift the cassette straight up and hook it onto the installed brackets.
   • Once engaged, the cassette should "click" into place.

Step 5: Installing the Fabric Roll

1. Rest the bottom/weight bar on the 2 saw horses or small ladders.
   
   
   💡 Tip: In the absence of saw horses, you can rest the weight bar on the ground—use some of the packaging to prevent scratching on the finished surfaces.
2. Completely unroll the fabric until you are working with the bare aluminum tube.
3. Note the motor side and idler side.
   
   
   ✅ Important:
   - The idler plate can easily fall off laterally.
   - The motor plate is secured on.
   - Position the brackets so that they will be in the correct orientation for installation.
   
   
    
   
   
4. Position both sides under the cassette and push up into the cassette simultaneously on the left and right.
   
   
   ⚠️ Warning: If one side goes in first, it can be difficult to get the other side in.

   💡 Tip: An audible click is heard when the shade is secured.
   
5. Fasten the silver safety screws on the mounting plates to secure the material roll
   
   

⚠️ Warning: Roll Shade all the way to expose the tube.  Confirm the fabric is centered on the tube.  See below image:

✅ Important: Shades shipping from 7/11/25 will now have caps that will lock in the material.  If material needs to be replaced, these caps will need to be removed, and replaced if damaged.

💡 Tip: Once the tracks are installed, accessing the latch mounting point and threading the screw can be challenging due to limited space. To simplify the process, we recommend loosely installing the latch before mounting the tracks. This allows you to close the door, swing the latch into position, and then tighten the screw using a ball-end hex key for easier access.

Shades Under 6' - Steel Bar Installation

• Lower the bottom edge of the shade until it is approximately 5 inches above the ground.
• Align the front and rear steel bars with the three mounting holes on the hem bar.
• Attach the front and rear steel bars to the hem bar:
  •  
    • Begin by securing one end of the steel bars with one of the three provided weight bar screws. Leave the screw slightly loose.
    • Secure the opposite end with another weight bar screw, also leaving it slightly loose.
    • Install the third screw in the center. Once all three screws are in place, tighten them securely

Step 7: Measuring and Cutting the Tracks

✅ Important: Tracks are labeled as Left and Right on the top side of the tracks.

💡 Tip: The top of the tracks is indicated by the black "Keder Feeder" and the removable "Bumper."

💡 Tip: To identify the Left/Right of the cassette: You want to be looking at the shade so the fabric is rolling off the back of the roll.

1. Measure the distance from the bottom of the case to the floor.
2. Subtract 1/2" from that measurement—this is the length the tracks need to be cut.
3. Remove the bottom cap from each track.
4. Cut the track to the length from Step b, trimming only the bottom end of the track (do not cut the top).

✅ Important: Track Cut Length = (Distance from bottom of case to floor) – 1/2"

⚠️ Warning: Make sure to cut only the bottom end of the track to this length.

⚠️ Warning: Eye protection is required!

✅ Important: Repeat this process for each track. Only cut one at a time — cut then install — to prevent tracks from being mixed up and to maintain progress.

Step 8: Track Installation on Surface/Wall Mount

---

✅ Important: ⚠️ Secure the V-Track approximately 1/2" narrower than the outside of the cassette.

1. Roll the shade down about 18 inches.
2. Feed the fabric v-channel cable into the eyehole at the top of the track. (The wheels on the bottom bar will be fed into the V-Track at this time.) [Image removed]
3. Secure the track with application-specific screws (not included).
   ✅ Important: For the second track, you should feel some tension when securing flush with the cassette—this is intentional as it adds tension to the fabric.
   ✅ Important: Ensure the wheels are correctly positioned and properly aligned with the track for smooth operation [Image removed]
   ⚠️ Warning: To confirm proper placement of the tracks please run the shade up and down a few times to confirm the proper positioning of the weight bar, before securing the tracks.
4. Move the weight bar to the position you intend to secure the track.
5. Screws should be positioned every 24 inches.
6. Use a rubber mallet to gently snap the track cover into place. [Image removed]
7. Install the wheel stopper as shown in the illustration to prevent the wheel system from coming off the tracks. [Image removed]

1. Roll the shade down about 18 inches.

4. Secure the track with application-specific screws (not included).

   ✅: Ensure the wheels are correctly positioned and properly aligned with the track for smooth operation

   

   ⚠️:  To confirm proper placement of the tracks please run the shade up and down a few times to confirm the proper positioning of the weight bar, before securing the tracks.

5. Before securing the track, lower and raise the screen twice to assist with proper positioning of the track.
6. Move the weightbar to the position you intend to secure the track.
7. Screws should be positioned every 24 inches.
8. Use a rubber mallet to gently snap the track cover into place.
9. Install the wheel stopper as shown in the illustration to prevent the wheel system from coming off the tracks.

Step 8: Fine Tuning and Track Management

1. Fine tune the upper and lower limits.
   • Refer to the Motor Programming Guide.
   • KAOS: SI KAOS Motor Programming Guide
   • KAOS: Alpha Motor Programming Guide
   • KAOS: Somfy Motor Programming Guide
2. Check the shade for level and the tracks for plum to ensure the fabric is rolling without telescoping or binding.

Best Practices Summary

1. Tools
   • Use application-specific fasteners (Headlok or TORX lag screws are ideal).
   • When using a miter saw, ensure the blade is suitable for cutting aluminum.
2. Cassette Installation
   • Ensure the fabric roll with the tube is uninstalled before installing the empty cassette.
   • For top/ceiling mount installations, select a screw or anchor with a shallower head profile to avoid contacting the shade material roll, and take care not to over-torque to prevent deformation.
3. Fabric Roll Installation
   • If saw horses are unavailable, rest the weight bar on the ground using packaging to protect finished surfaces.
   • Confirm the proper orientation of the motor side and idler side; position brackets accordingly.
4. Measuring and Cutting

• Only cut one track at a time—cut then install—to avoid mixing up tracks.

🔧 Troubleshooting

Common issues and solutions for your KAOS system

Shade Won't Fully Raise or Lower

Possible Cause

Motor programming limits are off or not set

Solution

Reset the motor and reprogram upper/lower limits

Tools Needed:

• Remote control that came with the shade
• Ladder (if needed)
• SI KAOS Motor Programming Guide
• Alpha Motor Programming Guide
• Somfy Motor Programming Guide

⚠️ Warning: Always ensure shade is fully lowered before beginning motor reprogramming to avoid damage, and easier access to motor head.

Step 1:

Select the Guide above for the motor you have.

Step 2:

Using the appropriate Motor Guide, Factory reset the motor

Step 3:

In the same Motor Guide, Re-set the UPPER and LOWER Limits.

💡 Tip: Test the limits multiple times after programming to ensure consistent operation.

Telescoping or Weight Bar Level Issues Weight Bar Binding or Track Noise

Telescoping or Weight Bar is not level

Possible Cause

Cassette or brackets are not level

Weight Bar not in Tracks/Tracks are not installed

Tracks are too close together, or too far apart

Solution

Re-level the cassette and verify bracket positions

Ensure weight bar is installed into the Track System, this will help keep it properly aligned.

Solution

Check track placement: The gap from the end of the weight bar to the edge of the tracks should be approximately 1/8" on both sides

Solution

Lower the shade past its LOWER LIMIT to completely unroll the fabric until the metal tube is exposed. Verify the fabric is centered on the tube (there will be a 45 degree cut in the fabric that will align with the end of the tube).

💡 Tip: This is also a good time to verify the Tube itself is level.

💡 Tip: Fabric will slide easily within the tube.

Weight Bar binding or noise coming from the tracks

Possible Cause

Improper Guide Wheel positioning/alignment

Guide Wheels not spinning freely

Tracks are not plum or properly aligned

Inner V-Track is dirty

⚠️ Warning: Never force a shade if tracks are binding. This can damage the fabric or motor. Always identify and fix the root cause first.

Solution

Adjust the guide wheels for proper placement within the track

🔧 Tools Needed:

• Pick tool or small flathead head screwdriver
• Flashlight or good lighting (Head Lamps are recommended)
• Screwdrivers
• Drill and Bits
• Tape Measure
• 4-6' Level
• Shims (if needed)
• Can of compressed air
• Silicone Based Lubricant

Step 1:

Visually inspect the guide wheels in the track

Step 2:

Make sure the Guide Wheels are spinning freely.

Step 3:

Test shade operation and fine-tune as needed

Solution

Track alignment and positioning

Step 1:

Remove any screws securing the tracks to the U-Channels

Step 2:

Cycle the shade 2 to 3 times with the tracks "floating" in the U-Channels. This will help align the tracks in the optimal distance

Step 3:

Make sure the tracks are plum/level. (See the Telescoping Section)

Solution

Track cleaning and maintenance

Step 1:

Make sure the length of the inner V-track is clean and free of debris.

Step 2:

Use a can of compressed air to blow out any dust, dirt, or debris that may have accumulated.

Step 3:

Use a Silicone based lubricant on the Keder for smoother operation.

💡 Tip: This should be done every 6 months to a year as basic maintenence.

⚠️ Warning: Only use a Silicone based lube on the Fabric/V-Tracks, and a Dry Lithium/Graphite lubricant on any other moving parts. DO NOT use WD-40.

Wrinkles in the Fabric

Possible Cause

Fabric not properly tensioned during installation

Fabric misaligned on the roller tube

Improper fabric handling during installation or shipping

Extreme temperature fluctuations in outdoor conditions

Shade stored in cold conditions before installation

Fabric compressed or folded during transport

Solution

Check and adjust fabric tension

Step 1:

Lower the shade fully and inspect how the fabric rolls onto the tube

Step 2:

Ensure fabric is rolling evenly without bunching or shifting side to side

Step 3:

If fabric is misaligned, manually adjust its position on the tube when fully lowered

Solution

Natural outdoor conditioning and sun exposure

💡 Tip: Outdoor materials often self-correct wrinkles through natural sun exposure and temperature cycling over 1-3 weeks.

Step 1:

Operate the shade daily, extending it during peak sun hours to allow natural heating

Step 2:

Leave shade extended during warm, sunny days to let solar heat naturally relax the material

Step 3:

Cycle the shade multiple times during temperature changes (morning/evening) to help work out creases

Solution

Steam treatment for stubborn wrinkles

🔧 Tools Needed:

• Garment steamer
• Clean microfiber cloth
• Extension cord (if needed for outdoor access)
• Water for steamer reservoir

Step 1:

With shade fully extended, use the garment steamer, holding it 6-8 inches away from the material

Step 2:

Work systematically across wrinkled areas, allowing steam to penetrate while gently stretching the material

Step 3:

Allow material to dry while maintaining tension, then cycle the shade several times

💡 Tip: Steam is gentler than direct heat and works well with outdoor materials. Work in sections for best results.

💡 Prevention Tip: When possible, install shades during warmer weather and allow the material to acclimate to outdoor conditions gradually.
