Unpacking
- Remove the screws from the door, open the door of the Box.
- Undo the silver safety screws, press the latch as shown in the drawings below.
- Now with the help of the red straps on both the ends, slowly pull out material roll and set it aside.
💡Tip:Using 2 people lay the material roll on a clean soft surface.
Installation
Mounting the Brackets:
🔴: BEFORE INSTALL– On inside mount installation, check upper corners of the opening clearance as necessary to prevent interference with the cassette and end caps.
🔴: Ensure the fasteners used are adequate for the weight of the Zen 2 Shade and the structure.
- Place brackets 2–6" from the ends, with additional brackets in the middle to prevent sagging.
- Ensure all brackets are aligned and level.
🔴: Use two brackets for shades under 20' wide and three for wider shades.
Mounting the Cassette (With Brackets):
- Lift the case straight up and hook onto the brackets.
- Once the bracket engages, the cassette will “click” into place.
Mounting the Cassette (Thru-Bolting):
🔴: Avoid over-tightening or aggressive drilling when mounting the cassette, as it may deform the case. This is crucial for ceiling mounts, as deformation can prevent attaching the front section. Ensure the mounting surface is flat and level.
🔴: Warning! Use screws or anchors with a shallow head to avoid contact with the shade roll, as damage from anchoring is not covered under warranty. Ensure the hardware is the right type, size, and quantity for the mounting surface and weight, which can be found on the shipping documents or box label.
Installing the Material Roll:
- With the cassette mounted, open the door
- Slide the material roll with mounting plates on each end into the cassette.
- Each end will “click” into place as the brackets engage.
-
💡Tip: The roll must remain level while installing into the cassette.
- Fasten the silver safety screws on the mounting plates to secure the material roll.
- This step is required for safety. Back safety screws out before installation.
- Must be re-engaged after installing material roll.
- Plug motor power cable into the barrel connector located in the cassette.
- The door can be rotated shut and secured with the screws provided.
Installing the Zipper Tracks:
- Disassemble the track by removing the screws holding the zipper track assembly to the mounting side of the track.
- Pull the zipper track assembly away from the mounting side.
-
🔴: For the next step, use fixed track side “a” for inside mounting; use fixed track side “b” for wall mounting.
-
- Position the fixed track below the slot in the cassette.
- The outside of the track should be flush with the end of the cassette.
- Align the tracks with the weight bar and zipper on the shade fabric.
-
🔴: Make sure that the tracks are mounted square to the cassette and plumb from all directions.
-
🔴: Leave a 1/8” gap between the top of the tracks and the bottom of the cassette.
-
- Use appropriate fasteners to secure the tracks against the mounting surface.
-
💡Tip: Pre-drilling for anchors along the score line will expedite and simplify the installation process.

💡Tip: Pre-drilling for anchors along the score line will expedite and simplify the installation process.
- Angle the top of the zipper track housing and align under material path.
- Feed the zipper into the top of the zipper track housing and pivot the bottom until it seats with the fixed track.
- Secure the zipper track housing to the fixed track with the provided screws.
Installing with Cable Guides:
- a. Run the cable through the hem bar end cap and position the crimped end just above the cable mount.
- b. Capture the crimped end of the guide cable as shown in figure “b.”
Tensioning the Cable Guides:
-
Screw the tensioner to the mounting surface.
-
Cut the cable to the correct length (see Note A).
-
Insert the cable into the tensioner and tighten it (see Note B).
-
Set tension by rotating the locknut clockwise until it sits firmly against the tensioner.
-
Wall anchor placement: Mount 0.5” to 0.75” above the ground.
-
Note A: Ensure cables are plumb, the cassette is level, and left/right cables are evenly spaced (within 1/4”). Measure from the cable mount to the tensioner hole before cutting.
-
Note B: Turn clockwise to tighten, counterclockwise to loosen. Follow proper anchoring instructions.
Removing the Cable Guides:
🔴: Cable guides comes along with a Quick Release tool kit
Step 1: Place the Tool on the Cable
Snap the Release Tool onto the cable, ensuring a secure fit.
Step 2: Insert into the Fitting
Firmly insert the tool's shaft into the end of the Quick-Connect® fitting to release the locking jaws.
Step 3: Adjust the Fitting
While maintaining pressure on the tool, remove or reposition the fitting as needed. Once the tool is removed, the automatic locking jaws will re-engage, securing the cable in place.
Line Voltage (AC) Connections:
🔴: Important Installation Notice
-
Compliance: Installation must comply with all local electrical codes when working with 110V AC power. Always consult a certified electrician when necessary.
-
Zen Shade Connection: All Zen shades are shipped with an internal disconnect. Before operating the shade, open the shade door and complete the connection.
- DO NOT cut less than 18" from quick connector.
AC - RS-485 Wiring:
💡Tip: Only 3 conductors are needed since the motor is AC powered
- Data + = ORANGE/WHITE
- Data - = ORANGE
- Ground = BROWN
- If using CAT 5/6
- A CAT 5/6 Coupler or Barrel can be used to extend the wire directly to your TRO.Y 2 or Janus' RJ45 ports using the standard 568b pinout.
- If using CrestNet or Lutron Wire with 4 conductors and a drain.
- Use a SPIKE to convert an RJ45 to the Phoenix.
Low Voltage Wiring:
- Shade can be powered by Janus or Kratos power distribution systems.
- Requirements for alternative power supply is 24vDC @ 3.5 amps.
💡Tip: Heat shrink self soldering connectors have been provided for your convenience.
SOLAR (Lithium Battery) Wiring:
Solar-configured shades come with a 10’ extension cable for the solar panel. This cable should be trimmed to the appropriate length and connected using the included Heat Shrink Self-Soldering Connectors.
For your convenience, heat shrink self-soldering connectors have been provided.
Installation Steps:
-
Strip ¼” of insulation from each conductor.
-
Slide the solder connector onto the exposed wire.
Operation & Maintenance Guidelines
Zen 2 Shade Operation & Maintenance Guidelines
-
Responsible Operation: Only authorized individuals should operate the shade system.
-
Clear Path Before Use: Always ensure the shade’s path is free of furniture or obstacles before operating. Monitor for smooth movement throughout its range.
-
Avoid High Wind Operation: Do not lower the shade in wind conditions exceeding 20 mph. If the shade is already down, it may be retracted but should not be operated during strong winds.
Maintenance Guidelines
-
Zipper Guide – Side Track: Clean tracks annually or bi-annually to prevent debris buildup. Use light power washing or low PSI compressed air. In dry/dusty conditions, apply a light coat of food-grade silicone spray.
-
Fabric Maintenance: Shades may collect debris and pests over time. Clean with a hose or a low-pressure washer using fabric-safe soap. Avoid scrubbing with bristle brushes or pads.
-
Cable & No-Guide Fabric Edges: Trim frayed edges with scissors or a blade, then carefully cauterize with a lighter or heat gun. Avoid prolonged heat exposure to prevent damage.
-
Power Cable Connection: The power cable is shipped disconnected for easier installation. If installing without removing the material roll, connect the power cable before mounting to ensure accessibility.
Following these guidelines will ensure optimal performance and longevity of your Zen 2 Shade system.
