Pocket Size Recommendations
-
Pocket Size Recommendation:
-
Use a 7" W x 12" H pocket for best results.
-
🔴: BEFORE INSTALL– On inside mount installation, check upper corners of the opening clearance as necessary to prevent interference with the bracket and end caps.
🔴: Ensure the fasteners used are adequate for the weight of the Zen 2 Shade and the structure.
Installation
Mounting the Brackets
- Use appropriate fasteners to mount to the ceiling or wall 1.5” less than the ordered shade width.
Installing the Material Roll
- Avoiding sharp tools, remove the roll from its packaging on a soft, clean surface.
- Discard any foam or excess packaging.
- Place the bracket insert into the idler side first; motor side will “click” into place.
- After pocket brackets are mounted, slide in the material roll along with the mounting plates on each end.
- Slide the plate into the brackets; the plate will “click” into place.
- Use the thumb screws to secure both ends.
- Fasten the thumb screws on the mounting plates to secure the material roll.
Installing the Zipper Tracks:
- Disassemble the track by removing the screws holding the zipper track assembly to the mounting side of the track.
- Pull the zipper track assembly away from the mounting side.
-
🔴: For the next step, use fixed track side “a” for inside mounting; use fixed track side“b” for wall mounting.
-
- Position the fixed track 1” below the brackets and in line with the fabric.
-
🔴: Make sure that the tracks are mounted level and plumb in all directions.
- Use appropriate fasteners to secure the track to the installation location, and secure the track against the mounting surface.
- Screw placements of zipper track into wall are: 6” from the bottom, every 2’ after that, and 6” from the top.
- Angle the top of the zipper track housing and align under the material path.
- Feed the zipper into the top of the zipper track housing and pivot the bottom until it seats with the fixed track.
- Secure the zipper track housing to the fixed track with screws.
Installing the Cable Guides:
- Run the cable through the hem bar end cap and position the crimped end just above the cable mount as pictured in figure A.
- Capture the crimped end of the guide cable as pictured in figure B.
Tensioning the Cables:
-
Mount the Tensioner: Secure the tensioner to the mounting surface.
-
Cut the Cable: Measure from the cable mount to the tensioner’s mounting hole, ensuring the cassette is level and the cables are plumb. Cut the cable accordingly.
-
Insert & Tighten: Insert the cable into the tensioner. To tighten, turn the locknut clockwise until it is firmly seated against the bottom of the tensioner.
-
Anchor Placement: Mount the wall anchor 0.5” to 0.75” above the ground.
-
Final Check: Ensure the left and right cables remain parallel, with no more than ¼” variation from top to bottom.
For tightening: Turn clockwise to tighten, counterclockwise to loosen. Follow proper anchoring instructions based on the substrate.
Removing the Cable Guides:
🔴: Cable guides comes along with a Quick Release tool kit
Step 1: Place the Tool on the Cable
Snap the Release Tool onto the cable, ensuring a secure fit.
Step 2: Insert into the Fitting
Firmly insert the tool's shaft into the end of the Quick-Connect® fitting to release the locking jaws.
Step 3: Adjust the Fitting
While maintaining pressure on the tool, remove or reposition the fitting as needed. Once the tool is removed, the automatic locking jaws will re-engage, securing the cable in place.
Line Voltage (AC) Connections:
🔴: Important Installation Notice
-
Compliance: Installation must comply with all local electrical codes when working with 110V AC power. Always consult a certified electrician when necessary.
-
Zen Shade Connection: All Zen shades are shipped with an internal disconnect. Before operating the shade, open the shade door and complete the connection.
- DO NOT cut less than 18" from quick connector.
AC - RS-485 Wiring:
💡Tip: Only 3 conductors are needed since the motor is AC powered
- Data + = ORANGE/WHITE
- Data - = ORANGE
- Ground = BROWN
- If using CAT 5/6
- A CAT 5/6 Coupler or Barrel can be used to extend the wire directly to your TRO.Y 2 or Janus' RJ45 ports using the standard 568b pinout.
- If using CrestNet or Lutron Wire with 4 conductors and a drain.
- Use a SPIKE to convert an RJ45 to the Phoenix.
Operation & Maintenance Guidelines
Zen 2 Shade Operation & Maintenance Guidelines
-
Responsible Operation: Only authorized individuals should operate the shade system.
-
Clear Path Before Use: Always ensure the shade’s path is free of furniture or obstacles before operating. Monitor for smooth movement throughout its range.
-
Avoid High Wind Operation: Do not lower the shade in wind conditions exceeding 20 mph. If the shade is already down, it may be retracted but should not be operated during strong winds.
Maintenance Guidelines
-
Zipper Guide – Side Track: Clean tracks annually or bi-annually to prevent debris buildup. Use light power washing or low PSI compressed air. In dry/dusty conditions, apply a light coat of food-grade silicone spray.
-
Fabric Maintenance: Shades may collect debris and pests over time. Clean with a hose or a low-pressure washer using fabric-safe soap. Avoid scrubbing with bristle brushes or pads.
-
Cable & No-Guide Fabric Edges: Trim frayed edges with scissors or a blade, then carefully cauterize with a lighter or heat gun. Avoid prolonged heat exposure to prevent damage.
-
Power Cable Connection: The power cable is shipped disconnected for easier installation. If installing without removing the material roll, connect the power cable before mounting to ensure accessibility.
Following these guidelines will ensure optimal performance and longevity of your Zen 2 Shade system.
