TRO.Y 2 Quick Setup Guide
Motor discovery, network setup, integration, and troubleshooting — all in one place.
1 Find Your TRO.Y on the Network
ping troy — you'll see the IP address instantly.
With Network Connection
Open CMD (Windows) or Terminal (Mac) and run:
ping troy
This returns the TRO.Y's current DHCP IP address.
- Windows: Open File Explorer, click "Network", look for SI_TRO.Y under Other Devices
-
Mac: Run
arp -ain Terminal — TRO.Y MAC starts with 70:B3:D5
Enter the IP address in your browser. You're in!
Direct Connect (No Network)
- POE Injector to TRO.Y "POE" port
- POE Injector "LAN" port to your laptop
- Turn OFF your Wi-Fi
Change your ethernet adapter from DHCP to Manual:
- IP Address: 169.254.169.X (X = any number 1-250)
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
- Press the Reset button on TRO.Y (red LED should flash)
- Open browser and go to 169.254.169.254
▶ Can't Connect? Click Here for Troubleshooting
Wi-Fi still on? Turn it off. Your laptop needs to use ONLY the ethernet connection.
Red LED not flashing? Press and hold the Reset button until it starts flashing.
Browser says "can't reach"? Double-check your IP settings. Try ping 169.254.169.254 first.
Still nothing? Power cycle TRO.Y completely and try again.

- Current firmware version is displayed on the Dashboard
- Compare to latest version on our Firmware Downloads page
- Go to System Settings in TRO.Y
- Click "Check for Updates" or "Update Firmware"
- If manual update: download firmware file, click "Browse", select file, click "Upload"
- Wait for update to complete — DO NOT power off during update
- TRO.Y will restart automatically after update
- Refresh your browser and verify new version on Dashboard
- Re-commit your Integration Table if prompted
Update Helen Firmware
- Go to Integration Settings in TRO.Y
- Click "Wireless Bridge Settings"
- Look for Helen Firmware section
- Download latest Helen firmware from Firmware Downloads
- Click "Update Helen Firmware"
- Select downloaded file and upload
- Wait for completion — Helen LEDs will flash during update
- Check Helen firmware date in Wireless Bridge Settings
- Latest version should show May 21, 2025 or newer
- Restart TRO.Y after Helen update completes
3 Add Motors to TRO.Y
Select your motor connection type below. Each section covers setup, discovery, and troubleshooting.
PoE Motors (via SI IP Bridge)
- Connect the IP Bridge PoE port to your network switch (same network as TRO.Y)
- Connect the IP Bridge RS-485 port to any TRO.Y BUS OUT port
- Ensure all PoE motors are connected to the same network switch
- Go to Integration Table
- Click "Start Wired Device Discovery"
- Motors appear as they're found — name them
- Click "Stop Wired Device Discovery" when done
- Click Config on any motor to set limits, presets, rotation
- "Accept Edits" then "Commit Integration Table"
▶ PoE Motors Not Showing Up? Click to Troubleshoot
Different subnets? TRO.Y, IP Bridge, and motors MUST all be on the same subnet.
IP Bridge not connected right? PoE side to network switch, RS-485 side to TRO.Y BUS OUT.
Switch not PoE enabled? Use a PoE injector between switch and motor.
IP Bridge firmware outdated? Update IP Bridge firmware via its web interface.
RS-485 Motors
Connect motors to any of the 4 BUS OUT ports on TRO.Y (or via Janus/Suite XVI).
- Go to Integration Table
- Click "Start Wired Device Discovery"
- Motors appear as they're found — name them
- Click "Stop Wired Device Discovery" when done
- Click Config on any motor to set limits, presets, rotation
- "Accept Edits" then "Commit Integration Table"
▶ RS-485 Motors Not Discovered? Click to Troubleshoot
Check wiring polarity. RS-485 requires correct + and - connections. Swap if needed.
Cable too long? RS-485 max recommended: 300 feet. Use twisted pair cable.
Multiple Janus units? Try connecting each directly to TRO.Y to isolate issues.
Motor has power? Verify voltage at motor terminals. No power = no discovery.
Zigbee Motors
Zigbee Network Best Practices
Zigbee problems are almost always about router placement and Wi-Fi interference. Get these right first.
Step A: Set Up Helen Coordinator
- Go to Integration Settings then Wireless Bridge Settings
- Select "Helen Bridge"
- Click "Submit" then Restart TRO.Y
- Click "Create Zigbee Network"
- A PAN ID should appear (not 0000)
Step B: Add Routers FIRST
- Go to Device Table and click "Open Zigbee Pairing"
- Helen Router: Hold Pair button until LEDs flash, release
- Smart Plug: Hold button 5-10 sec until LED flashes
- Router appears in Device Table — name it
Step C: Add Zigbee Motors
- Click "Open Zigbee Pairing"
- Nano motors: Hold motor head button for 2 jogs, LED amber
- Nino motors: Hold motor head button for 2 jogs, LED red
- Motor jogs once when paired — name it and commit
▶ Zigbee Not Working? Click to Troubleshoot
PAN ID shows 0000? Network not created. Click "Create Zigbee Network" again.
Motor won't pair? Is it on another network (TaHoma)? Remove it first.
Weak signal? Add more routers. Check for metal/concrete obstructions.
Wi-Fi interference? Change Zigbee channel to 15 or 25.
RTS Motors
Step A: Add Pegasus
- Wire Pegasus to any TRO.Y BUS OUT port
- Click "Start Wired Device Discovery"
- Pegasus appears — name it and save
Step B: Add RTS Motors
- Somfy 30/50 Series: Hold Programming Button until motor jogs
- SI KAOS: Hold STOP for 5 seconds until motor jogs
- Alpha: Tap RED button on motor head (jogs once)
- Click Config on Pegasus then RF Motor Table
- Click "RF Pair" for desired channel
- Motor jogs to confirm — click "RF Test" to verify
- Label the channel and Save
▶ RTS Not Working? Click to Troubleshoot
Motor won't pair? Ensure motor is in pairing mode. Move Pegasus closer.
Limited range? RTS is ~30' indoors. Check antenna. Use RF repeater.
"Ghost" commands? RF interference. Clear programming and re-pair.
