When replacing an older V1 motor in an Open Roll shade with a new V2 motor (with a plug-style charging port), the internal charging magnet must also be replaced. Follow the steps below to ensure proper charging functionality.
Tools Required
- Phillips screwdriver
- 0.5mm Allen wrench (for charging magnet set screw)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1 – Remove the End Cap (Tombstone)
Remove the tombstone-style end cap from the motor side bracket to access the internal components.
Step 2 – Remove the Old Charging Magnet Assembly
- Remove the bracket clip to be able to remove the wire from magnet to the PCB.
- Locate the existing charging magnet inside the tombstone.
- Use a 0.5mm Allen wrench to loosen the small set screw holding it in place.
- Carefully remove the entire charging magnet and PCB board assembly.
- The new motor should come with a new motor plate, if not, remove and install on the new motor.
This older assembly was designed for V1 motors using the red battery contact holders on the motor head.
Step 3 – Install the New Charging Magnet (Plug Style)
- If needed, install the motor plate.
- Insert the new charging magnet that matches the plug port on the V2 motor.
- Ensure the magnet protrudes slightly from the end cap.
⚠️ If it sits recessed, the charging cable may not make a reliable connection.
- Tighten the set screw to secure the magnet in place.
Step 4 – Reinstall the End Cap and Complete the Connection
- Reattach the tombstone end cap to the bracket.
- Insert the new V2 motor into the shade tube and fully seat it.
- Plug the end of the new charging magnet into the motor’s charging port.
Program and Test the Motor
- ⚠️ Only test the motor when the shade is mounted.
- Use the remote or controller to:
- Confirm motor direction
- Set upper and lower limits (required — new motors ship without presets)
