Installation
Connecting Power:
-
Primary Power: Use a single power supply on either side of Janus.
-
Optional Redundancy: Add a second power supply for backup.
.
If one power source fails, Janus automatically switches to the backup.
By default, power comes from the Phoenix side.
💡Tip: 375 Power Supply (sold separately) can be used with up to 8–485 LV, 485 AC, Zigbee/RTS LV shades/screens.
Connecting Shades:
Janus supports 485 LV, 485 AC, or Zigbee/RTS low-voltage shades or screens.
You can use 2–5 conductor cable or CAT5e/6, with either the RJ45 or Phoenix side.
Each Janus can control up to 8 shades/screens.
Use the Phoenix side primarily for shades only.
🔴: Do not connect accessories to this side.
For accessories, use the RJ45 side instead.
Use the UTP face to connect Decoflex keypads, other accessories, or 485 AC motors.
If connecting 485 LV shades/screens, follow the termination table or use the optional Janus Spike Kit.
🔴:Do not use the UTP face when using Fontus.
Connecting BUS Devices:
RJ45 Motor Ports
🔴: All motor ports on the RJ45 side can accept device inputs if not used for shades.
Janus can support up to 8 shades and 8 devices at the same time—
just connect shades to the Phoenix side and devices to the RJ45 side.
🔴: If powering a shade through the RJ45 side, it is recommended to use a SPIKE.
- The Janus Spike Kit (sold separately) connects at the shade location and allows for a properly terminated UTP cable installation.
⚠️ Important Notice
The wiring shown in the illustration applies only to connections between the Janus UTP face and the motor.
DO NOT use this pinout with the Phoenix Side.
Spike Sense should only be used when connecting shades.
Connecting IP Control:
TRO.Y is designed to connect to either BUS IN port on Janus.
No matter which port you use, your entire system will be IP-controllable.
⚠️ Note: TRO.Y must be connected to the site’s IP network using a separate Ethernet cable.

Plenum:
🔴:The Plenum Janus will include a Plenum rater Power Supply, and top cover of the Janus.
Power Supply:
Changing the cover:
- Use a #1 Phillips screwdriver to remove the six (6) enclosure screws (two on each side and two on the bottom).
- Carefully slide standard enclosure top off Janus unit; perform this step slowly and avoid touching the PCB.
- Carefully slide plenum rated enclosure top onto Janus unit; perform this step slowly and avoid touching the PCB.
- Use a #1 Phillips screwdriver to reinstall the six (6) enclosure screws. The screws should be hand tight only, do not over-tighten
Rack Mounting:
Janus can be mounted in various ways using the six (6) screw hole locations.
Using Universal Rack Ears:
💡: The symmetrical hole pattern of the Janus Universal Rack Ear allows the multi-functional brackets to be mounted on either side of Janus in any orientation. This makes it possible to mount Janus to effectively any surface in multiple positions.
Half Rack:
- Janus can be mounted in a standard half rack using two (2) Universal Rack Ears.
Full Rack (Single Janus Unit):
- A single Janus unit can be mounted in a standard 19” rack using one Universal Rack Ear and one Long Rack Ear.
Full Rack (2 Janus units):
- Two Janus units can be coupled together and mounted in a standard 19” rack.
- Follow the steps on the following spread for installation.
-
Mount the DIN Rail:
Use two (2) included DIN Rail screws to install the DIN Rail onto the first Janus unit. -
Attach DIN Rail Brackets:
On the second Janus unit, install the two DIN Rail brackets using three (3) Rack Ear screws per bracket (included). -
Join the Janus Units:
Hold both Janus units together and slide the DIN Rail through the brackets.
Use the included 1.5 mm hex tool to tighten the set screws on both brackets. -
Install the Fascia:
Slide the Rack Mount Fascia over the exposed DIN Rail bracket on the front of the combined unit.
Secure it with two Rack Ear screws—one at the top and one at the bottom. -
Secure the Rack Ears:
Attach one Rack Ear to each Janus unit using three (3) Rack Ear screws per ear.
Din Rail Mounting:
Mounting Janus: Plenum & Non-Plenum Options
Janus is available in both plenum-rated and non-plenum versions.
If you plan to install Janus in a plenum air space, be sure you have selected a plenum-rated Janus kit.
Janus offers flexible mounting with six (6) screw hole locations, allowing for a variety of installation methods.
Using Universal DIN Rail Bracket:
Janus Universal DIN Rail Bracket Overview
The Janus Universal DIN Rail Bracket shares the same symmetrical hole pattern as the Universal Rack Ear, offering six mounting locations on the Janus unit.
Each bracket includes multiple threaded holes to accommodate set screws, allowing you to securely lock the brackets in place along the DIN Rail for a stable installation.
Flexible Mounting with Universal DIN Rail Brackets
Janus can be mounted in multiple orientations and locations using the Universal DIN Rail Brackets.
These brackets are compatible with the TS-35 ‘Top Hat’ DIN mounting rail and can be attached to the bottom or either side of the Janus unit, providing maximum installation flexibility.
Structured Wiring Box Mounting:
Janus can be easily installed in almost any structured wiring enclosure using either the Universal Rack Ears or Universal DIN Rail Brackets. These enclosures provide an efficient and professional way to organize wiring while securely mounting supporting devices such as power supplies and TRO.Y units. For a comprehensive mounting solution, the Jopplin XVI Bracket Kit can be utilized to ensure seamless integration within the enclosure.
